Wakayama Prefecture (kansai region), the name Wakayama comes from Wa (和) Harmony, (歌) Song, Yama (山) Mountain. In 1585, Toyotomi Hideyoshi named it after a Man'yoshu Tanka poem in Kanji that is "Harmony Sing Mountain". It is located on the island of Honshu in the Kii Province (aka. Kishu Province) that also includes parts of Mie Prefecture. Its in the Southern point of the Kii Peninsula.
Design
The prefectural emblem was designed by the general public as the "KenAkira Design Plan" and has been established by the prefecture Notice No. 310 "Wakayama Prefecture Chapter" on April 26, 1969. The katakana character "wa" is designed that is like a fan.
