Akita
Akita Prefecture (jp. 秋田県. rmj. akita-ken. tohoku region), the name Akita comes from Aki (秋) Autumn, Ta (田) Rice Field. Akita is known for its hot springs and ideal location near both the mountains and the sea, as well as the location of Kakunodate, a former castle town and samurai stronghold. It is located on the island of Honshu and is apart of the Tohoku Region. Akita City is the capitol of the prefecture and the site of many famous events such as the Kantou Festival. Prefecture Name Origins
Akita Prefecture got its name from Akita-han (Akita Domain). In former times, it was referred to in the Nihon Shoki as Agita (齶田 in old Japanese kanji, and 飽田 in modern kanji). In 733 AD, in the Shoku-Nihonki, it was referred to as Akita-mura.
