Osaka Prefecture
Osaka
Osaka Prefecture (jp. 大阪府. rmj. osaka-fu. kansai region), the name Osaka comes from Kosaka () that is based on the Kanji character for Sturdy Earth. There are theories that the Kanji for "Saka" had contributed as Seto Rakuhoshu (1808) wrote for it to be returning to the earth and it was used by the administration in the Meiji era. Osaka and Kyoto use the suffix "Fu" (en. urban prefecture) word for prefecture and are the only prefectures to use it. It is located on the island of Honshu and is apart of the Keihanshin (京阪神) Metropolitan Trio of Kyoto, Kobe (Hyogo), and Osaka. The capital of Osaka is busy city streets of Osaka City and is known for its hard work and even harder lifestyle when they play. In the edo period it was trading hub for rice and it was booming with its economy, transportation, finance and commerce. It is noted to be where one of the best Aquariums in the world is named "Kaiyukan" and there is also historic sites of Osaka Castle (1586) and Shitenno-ji Temple (59 AD). Design
The circular shape design is combined with a "O" which is suppose to be a gourd that branches out to other gourds that represent different idea of hope, prosperity, and harmony, which both the emblem and flag both share. The colors originally were white and green and later on was changed to a blue. It was enacted in 1984 on the 100th anniversary of the administration of Osaka prefecture.
Welcome to Osaka! use to be the commercial and industrial factory area for the old capital until it moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. The economics had tough times with merchants rebuilding, but soon after the war started and ended leaving much of the areas damaged, and later the Great Hanshin Earthquake. The once prosperous area would rebuild again and again with high rise buildings, food streets and bars, and a extravagant and affordable social night life to become known as "The Nations Kitchen" for a food lovers dream.
Culture Osaka culture is based on its transportation industry and its huge amount of Bridges. The reason for this is that Osaka was a place of important water transportation pre-modernization in the Heian era. Its a thick urbanized area has sections of greenery that peak out through its tall building landscape with areas of focus on buildings or nature. It has become a cultural center focused on food culture and in the Kansai region it has gone to even establish its own "Osaka-ben" (Osaka Japanese-Dialect) due to the people to people exchanges in the city. |
